<p>Ohio lawmakers are once again discussing the topic of recreational cannabis. A bill titled "An Act to Control and Regulate Adult Use Cannabis" was reintroduced by Secretary of State Frank Larose. This proposal would legalize cannabis for adults 21 and older. Under this bill will also come a 10% tax on all cannabis commercial sales. The 10% fund will be used to "fund a cannabis social equity and jobs program" as well as to "provide financial assistance and license application support to individuals most directly and adversely impacted by the enforcement of marijuana-related laws".&nbsp;</p>
<p>If this new bill is adopted and cannabis legalized, adults would be legally allowed to carry up to 2.5 ounces of weed and up to 15 grams of concentrate. All adults will also be allowed to legally cultivate up to 6 cannabis plants. This is good news for Ohioans as they won't be forced to buy dispensary weed if they prefer to home grow.&nbsp;</p>
<h2 id="0">Is There Opposition Against Legalizing Recreational Weed In Ohio?</h2>
<p>Top state Republicans have gone on record describing their opposition against the legalization of recreational cannabis. Governor Mike Dewine is one of the opponents of legalization, stating ""I do not, however, support legalizing marijuana for recreational use. I have seen the negative effects it has had in states that have legalized it and fear that it would also lead to increased use by underage kids and that small children could consume marijuana-laced foods that look like candy.</p>
<h3 id="1">When Could We Expect To Hear An Official Decision?</h3>
<p>On January 5, 2022, it was reported that Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose resubmitted the measure to the Ohio General Assembly. If the legislature does not approve the measure, it will go on &nbsp;the ballot for Ohio voters in 2023.&nbsp;<br />The legislature has until May 3, 2023 to act on the measure. If the bill is not approved all hope is not lost for cannabis users, as the people of Ohio will be able to vote on cannabis legalization on the ballot in 2023.</p>
