<p>Ohio's Medical Marijuana Control Program has introduced three new conditions that would qualify patients for a medical marijuana card. The State Medical Board of Ohio has introduced Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and Autism Spectrum Disorder as the 3 new potential qualifying conditions. This proposal is now under expert review and input from the public is encouraged.<br /><br />It wasn't easy for the people of Ohio to get Ohio's Medical Marijuana board to take a look at potentially adding these three conditions. To submit new conditions for review, Ohio residents must submit a petition to the states Medical Marijuana Control Program. The Medical Board received <a href="https://med.ohio.gov/Medical-Marijuana-Petitions#1231401-2022-petitions">10 petitions</a> from November 1st till December 31st of 2022. There were also petitions submitted for Bipolar 2 Depression Anxiety, Chronic Migraines, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Uterine Cancer, Anxiety, DDD, Neuropathy, and Depression, but none of them passed.</p>
<h2 id="0">Medical Marijuana For Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and Autism Spectrum Disorder</h2>
<p>There is plenty of scientific evidence that shows how cannabis can be effective for relieving symptoms of IBS, OCD, and Autism. Adding these three diseases to the list of qualifying conditions will do a lot of good for the people of Ohio who are suffering from these conditions.&nbsp;Written public comment on these conditions is encouraged and will be accepted February 9 &ndash; February 24, 2023. <h3 id="1">So What's Next?</h3>
<p>Now the committee will review the subject matter experts&rsquo; reports, and then make a recommendation to the full board for a vote to adopt or deny the petition to add the qualifying conditions. That full board vote is expected this summer.</p>
<h3 id="2">Has There Been Similar Petitions In The Past?</h3>
<p>Yes, there have been a few petitions to get Autism and IBS added to the list of qualifying conditions in Ohio. Petitions for autism were rejected by the board in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. A petition for irritable bowel syndrome was rejected by the board in 2019. Hopefully this time around things will be different.<br /><br />There are currently over 25 conditions that would make one eligible for a medical marijuana card in Ohio.&nbsp;Qualifying medical conditions include all of the following:</p>

<li>Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis</li>
<li>Alzheimer&rsquo;s disease</li>
<li>Cachexia</li>
<li>Cancer</li>
<li>Chronic traumatic encephalopathy</li>
<li>Crohn&rsquo;s disease</li>
<li>Epilepsy or another seizure disorder</li>
<li>Fibromyalgia</li>
<li>Glaucoma</li>
<li>Hepatitis C</li>
<li>Huntington&rsquo;s disease</li>
<li>Inflammatory bowel disease</li>
<li>Multiple sclerosis, pain that is either chronic and severe or intractable</li>
<li>Parkinson&rsquo;s disease</li>
<li>Positive status for HIV</li>
<li>post-traumatic stress disorder</li>
<li>Sickle cell anemia</li>
<li>Spasticity, spinal cord disease or injury</li>
<li>Terminal illness</li>
<li>Tourette syndrome</li>
<li>Traumatic brain injury</li>
<li>Ulcerative colitis.</li>
</ul>
<p>In February 2021, the State Medical Board of Ohio determined the following conditions are considered covered by an existing qualifying condition:</p>

<li>arthritis</li>
<li>chronic migraines and complex regional pain syndrome.</li>
