Recent legislation approved by the Arizona State Senate includes two major changes for medical marijuana users across Arizona. Under Senate Bill 1466, the new cost of a medical marijuana card would become $50, a major decrease from the current cost of $150.

<h2 id="0">What is Senate Bill 1466?</h2>
Senate Bill 1466 is an Arizona State bill that aims to reduce the cost of a medical marijuana card and renewal from $150 to $50. SB 1466 would also provide free medical marijuana cards to Veterans.&nbsp; SB 1466 was first introduced to the State Senate on February 1st by Senator T.J. Shope (R), who is the primary sponsor for the bill.
SB1466 passed through the Senate on March 2nd and will now be making its way to the House of Representatives. Only after it passes through the House of Representatives will it be considered by Governor Katie Hobbs.
Medical marijuana has been legal in Arizona for quite some time. It was first legalized in November of 2010, and the market has only grown since. Recreational marijuana wasn't available in Arizona until November of 2020, when Proposition 207 passed.
